Jason Phillips wearing Surf Sunglasses in G-Land
When choosing sunglasses for surfing, consider the following:
1. A rigid frame with minimal give helps keep frames on your head. Flexible frames fail in the surf for the same reason that goggles fail - too much give lets them come off too easily.
2. A non-elastic strap is required for the same reasons mentioned above.
3. Ventilation is important when surfing in colder waters - 66°F, 19°C and below.
4. A removable strap allows for use out of the water.
5. For asian or wider faces, consider a wider frame or a frame that builds the nose bridge area.
6. For really thick prescriptions, you will need a flatter frame front to accept your lenses.
7. A leash in addition to the strap keeps you from searching for your glasses after a bad wipe-out.
MOST SURF SUNGLASSES ON THE MARKET ALREADY INCLUDE THE IMPORTANT FEATURES BELOW
-Polarized lenses cut down glare, or vertical light that reflects off flat surfaces such as water, wet roads, etc.
-100% UVA/UVB protection.
-Polycarbonate lenses
